I found it very interesting to run through each of these traits and test myself against them (not that I'm an incredibly successful entrepreneur but out of interest!).

1. I fail Test 1. But that's only because I was working so late the night before on passing test 7 that I couldn't make it for 7am the next day! Mind you Simon Cowell is reputed to work so late he often rises late morning.
2. As a perfectionist, Test 2 can be a challenge for me, although having a trusting nature helps me overcome this challenge. The way I overcame it in my career was to recruit people better than me (at the task I needed to delegate).
3. I normally weigh decisions up for a long time so might not pass Test 3. Although I have made perhaps the biggest 3 or 4 decisions in my life in a matter of a few minutes.
4. Undecided on Test 4.
5. Definitely pass Test 5! My expectations are always high even after just having suffered a setback.
6. This test may be my downfall. I am definitely not ruthless and never will be. Mind you, I am pleased to fail this test because I disagree that it is a necessity and prefer a different approach to the people in my life.
7. Test 7 is my easiest test, to the annoyance of many around me. If you observe anybody that has become the best at anything from business ventures to the 100m sprint, they are fanatically obsessed with detail because that trait is essential to get the advantage in any competitive situation and that advantage might initially be on an infinitesimal scale. Frustrating for partners, friends & colleagues but essential for success.

I definitely agree with optimism, if you are going to succeed then you always look forward, there is very little benefit in looking back apart from learning from your mistakes.

Ruthlessnes - I'm not to sure, I think that working with people rather than against them works better. In many industries you can gain a lot by working with competitors. Take cottage rentals for example, if your cottages are booked up and you have a competitor that has a similar cottage that is free, pass the enquiries on to them and they usually reciprocate!

I agree with all of the above, delegation is the hardest thing. Most small businessmen who build a business from scratch find this the hardest thing to do, get someone to look after their business whilst they look to progress!

Looking forward, people grow by looking forward to tomorrow and not looking back unless it is to identify where you go wrong!

Identifying the next big thing, there are means and ways to identify growing markets. when you know how to do this, it is easy to determine the market size and how fast it is growing. The world is always open for business, you just have to make it a profitable one!
